RANGPUR: The country’s womenfolk are playing crucial role to establish their equal rights through speeding up national development as well as building peaceful society free form militancy and gender discrimination, reports BSS. The opinion came at a women rally held at Brahmani Kunda Girls’ High School under Pirgachha upazila here on Wednesday to inform about successes of the present government, Prime Minister’s 10 special initiatives, preventing militancy and terrorism. The District Information Office organised the rally participated by over 350 adolescents, female students, housewives, girls and community leaders, public representatives, professionals, religious leaders and local elite.
Earlier, documentary films ‘Alor Alo’ on child marriage, ‘Katbe Andhar’ on drug abuse, ‘Sonar Bangla Gorar Angikar’ on national integrity strategy and ‘Astha’ on cost-free legal aid services were screened there. Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Government Begum Rokeya College Professor Md Shah Alam attended the rally as the chief guest with Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir in the chair.
Headmaster of Brahmani Kunda Girls’ High School Zillur Rahman and its Assistant Headmistress Rama Chakraborty attended the rally as special guests.
Assistant Information at the District Information Office Tasmia Tamanna delivered welcome speech narrating the goals and objectives of the rally. Humayun Kobir narrated about laudable successes achieved by the government in education, health, women development, poverty alleviation, digitisation, power and other sectors during the past eight years and future development plans. “The government has achieved epoch-making successes in preventing child marriage, ensuring maternal and child health care, safe pregnancy, maternity, sanitation, birth registration, breast feeding, vaccination of babies, hygiene of adolescents,” he said. “The government has re-launched the community clinics and revitalised those to provide cost free health services to the rural people at their doorsteps, sub-stipends for the female students and other programmes for development of children and women,” he said.
The chief guest said the extent of gender discrimination, social curses and inequality among the communities marked substantial reduction in recent years following successful implementation of various government programmes. “The present government puts maximum importance on development of the womenfolk to ensure their active participations in socio-economic and political activities to build a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041,” he said.
