Cultural programme by indigenous communities held at IUB

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a cultural performance by a group of indigenous communities of Bangladesh on Thursday at IUB Campus in Bashundhara in the capital. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.  Professor M Omar Rahman, vice chancellor, IUB delivered welcome speech, while  Dr Mahbub Alam, dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences explained the background of indigenous communities’ cultural heritage. Towhid Samad, chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University delivered vote of thanks.
The students of Moanoghar Residential High School, Rangamati and a Mandi group from Madhupur enthralled the audience by their musical performances and traditional dances. They performed nine different dances and three songs including jum dance, bamboo dance, changbi dance; dance of hunting, bottle dance and dances by the garo, chakma and tripura community. The songs include chakma song and umbrella songs.
Members of the Trustees, pro-vice chancellor of IUB, deans, members of the faculty and management and a full-house students enjoyed indigenous communities’ two-hour splendid cultural performances.
