RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here have said ensuring a proper measurement of transport is vital for maintaining safety of both life and property as scores of citizens suffer from transport hazards every year, reports BSS. Hazardous transportation has been adjudged as a major threat to public health in Bangladesh, so emphasis should be given to adopting effective measures in this regard, the speakers added.
They made these observations while addressing a discussion titled “Measurements for Transport” held at a city hotel in Rajshahi City on Saturday. Regional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) hosted the discussion marking the World Metrology Day-2017.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin and president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively.
During their keynote presentations, Professor Ariful Islam from Department of Applied Physics and Electronics of Rajshahi University and BSTI Deputy Director Khairul Alam highlighted the aspects of transport measurement.
Kazi Ashraf Uddin said the importance of metrology is undeniable for the development of technology, trade and commerce and at all levels of people’s daily life and the national life.
Indeed more widely metrology, the science of measurement, plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, improving the quality of life and protecting the global environment. He emphasised the key role of transportation in the modern world. Apart from this, human beings move the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the goods they use or rely on alongside the raw materials such goods are made from.
In addition to safety, efficiency and minimal environment impact, the movement of both people and cargo require an amazing range of measurements.
