Mosharraf for extracurricular activities to restore values
FARIDPUR: Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday laid stresses on
extracurricular activities for restoring social values, reports BSS.
“The extracurricular activities along with academic studies play a vital role in flourishing thinking levels and mental ability of the students,” the minister said.
He came up with the observation while he was speaking as the chief guest a closing session of five-day national debate competition organised by Faridpur Debate Forum at Poet Jasimuddin auditorium here.
Deputy Commissioner Begum Umme Salma Tanzia, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Abdur Rashid, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Contractor found dead
Manikganj: Police recovered the body of a contractor from his East Dashra residence in the town on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Locals informed police as bad odour was spreading from the house of Nurul Islam, 58, son of Mahtab Uddin of Saturia upazila, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Habibullah Sarkar.
Later, police broke into the house around 7 pm and found the body of Nurul Islam, lying on the bed.
The body was sent to sadar hospital morgue.
Tk 500 reward for information on child marriage
Sherpur: Nalitabari upazila administration announced Tk 500 for those who will provide information related to child marriage, aiming to stop child marriage bids, reports UNB.
Mokhlesur Rahman Ripon, chairman of Nalitabari upazila, made the announcement while talking at the upazila development coordination committee meeting on Thursday. The administration took the initiative to take prompt action in preventing child marriage, he said.
Besides, the upazila chairman also said he will bear the educational expenses of the girls who will inform the incident of their own child marriage attempts to the local administration.
Tarafdar Sohle Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Offcer, said already the upazila administration has taken so many steps to prevent child marriage.
Two electrocuted in Jessore

A woman and her grandchild died from electrocution at Jogananda Katho village in Jhikargachha upazila on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as Mariam Khatun, 55, wife of Haru and her grandchild Alamin, 15, son of Anarul Islam.
Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Jhikargaccha Police Station, said Mariam died on the spot when she came in contact with an electric wire while removing cloths from the wire around 6pm. Anarul was also electrocuted when he tried to rescue her.
