Police arrested 11 people, including Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif’s son Sirhan Sharif Tamal, in a case filed for vandalism early yesterday, reports UNB. District police super Zihadul Kabir said a joint team of Pabna and Ishwardi police conducted separate overnight drives and arrested them from different parts of the district. Quoting locals, police said Land Minister Shamsur Rahman, also an MP from Pabna-4 constituency, and his son-in-law Ishwardi municipality Mayor Abul Kalam Azad had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area. Amid the rivalry, 10-15 supporters of the minister, led by local Jubo League leader Rajib Sarkar, swooped on a number of business establishments at Ishwardi upazila headquarters on Thursday and vandalised those, including a shop owned by Azad. They also stormed the house of Zubaiyer Biswas, president of upazila unit Chhatra League, and ransacked it. Later, Atiar Biswas, father of Zubaiyer, filed a case with Ishwardi Police Station on Thursday night making Sirhan Sharif Tamal and Jubo League leader Rajib Sarkar the main accused in it.
