Growers eye good Boro yield

JESSORE: Farmers in eight upazilas of the district are expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy the major food crop in the district this current season, reports BSS.
The harvesting of the paddy is going on in full swing. Agricultural Officials told that the farmers are very happy to get fair price of Boro paddy this year. Now per mound (40-kg) paddy is selling at Taka 900 to 950.
District Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) sources said, different varieties of Boro paddy cultivated on 1,51,888 hectares of land in eight upazilas of the district to production target 6,11,821 tonnes of paddy this season projecting an average target of yielding 4.75 tonnes of rice.Of the total, 25,150 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in Jessore Sadar upazila, 20,600 hectares of land in Sharsha upazila, 16,450 hectares in Jhikorgacha upazila, 11,650 hectares of land in Chaugacha upazila, 16,874 hectares in Abhaynagar upazila, 13,150 hectares of land in Bagherpara upazila, 32,100 hectares of land in Monirampur upazila and 15,914 hectares of land in Keshabpur upazila of the district, DAE sources said. Kazi Habibur Rahman, deputy director of DAE said, different kinds of HYV Boro paddy cultivated in the area, which contain bumper production.
