Six journos win BCTVF Award

Bangladesh Cable TV Viewers Forum (BCTVF) has awarded six investigative TV reporters for their outstanding performance in reporting. Mizan Malik, ‘Investigation 360 degree’ programme chief of Jamuna TV, Rokonuzzaman Pervez of ATN Bangla, Rashed Mizan of Channel 24, M Saif Khan of Baishakhi TV, Hasan Misbah of Ekushey Television and Khan Mohammad Romel of Somoy TV were given best awards 2014. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu handed over the crests, cheques and certificates among the winners at a function organised by BCTVF at Sagor-Runi auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) yesterday.
Md Sahabuddin, convener of BCTVF, presided over the function while Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) , Sakhawat Hossain Badsha, president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Israf Hossain Isha , president of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh, Farida Hossain, managing director of Golden World Jewellers, and Razu Alim, CEO of Telepress and also programme manager of Channel I, attended it as special guests.
Bangladesh Cable TV Viewers Forum has been distributing the award since 2006 in 18 categories. Sakhawat Hossain Badsha urged the Information Ministry to regulate the wages of TV journalists by the wage board. “Journalists, detained under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, have not been brought to justice yet. They are behind bars for months with the trial yet to start. I urge the government to give the detainees justice,” he said.
“Detectives in our country are very sagacious in solving crime problems but in case of Sagor-Runi tragedy they seem lethargic,” he added. Hasanul Haq Inu said, “Like TV media, the government also faces criticism from people. But this antipathy makes us sensible towards our duties.” “I urge the media to save TV viewers from too many advertisements and false and provocative news. I also ask it to serve democracy and work for it,” he said.
