The schedule of the Sheikh Kamal Gold Cup International Football Tournament has already been fixed to organise from October 18 to 28. Teams from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka or Pakistan and host Bangladesh are expected to take part in the ten day tournament to be held at MA Aziz Stadium in the Port City.
The club cup tournament will be organised by the Chittagong Abahani Limited under the auspices of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). Four teams from home and as many clubs from abroad would be invited to the tournament.
Chairman of the Chittagong Abahani Limited Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and Talukdar Mohammed Ruhul Amin, president of the football committee of the Ctg Abahani informed the reporters yesterday that they had a meeting with the BFF president in this regard..
Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, MP, who is also one of the executive members, said that they have already got the green signal from BFF.
“We have already obtained the consent of the BFF president and despite a tight domestic and international schedule of national and club teams, we have a gap from the third week of October to 30th October and by this time we will organise the tournament.”
Shamsul Haque stated that they have also preliminary choose the four local teams with the ongoing Bangladesh Premier Football League champions, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club, Abahani Limited and the host Chittagong Abahani. Among four foreign teams, they decided to invite Kolkata Mohun Bagan and East Bengal team, Nepal champions team and another team from Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka or Maldives.
Shamsul Haque and Ruhul Amin, however said that they have already chalked out a plan to organise the tournament in a colourful manner –“As it is an international tournament with the participation of four foreign teams including the Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, obviously it would be organised in a befitting way,” said Ruhul Amin.
“No, we are yet prepare any budget for the tournament as we are just started the preliminary works and we put our first step to have the permission from the BFF, which we have received, now we will move on to our next step to get the consent of foreign teams,” Ruhul Amin replied to a query.
