NARSINGDI: The historic May Day was observed in the district on Monday as else where in the world with the slogan of making labourers-owners unity to build Sonar Bangla, reports BSS.
The day is observed across the world every year since 1886 commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the workers at Hay market, Chicago in the USA for eight-hour working day upholding the rights of the working class.
To mark the Day, District Administration brought out a colourful procession in the town led by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shubash Chandra Biswas. Different Labour organization including Jatiya Sramik League, Trade union, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sarmik Union and professional bodies took part in the procession.After the rally a discussion meeting was held at local Shilpakala Academy with Additional Deputy Commissioner ANM Faizur Rahman in the chair. DC Dr Shubash Chandra Biswas addressed the discussion as chief guest while Police Super Amena Begum BPM addressed as special guest. Deputy Chief Inspector, Department of National Industries labourers investigation, Mohammad Yousuf Ali presented the welcome speech.
