UP chairman held with arms

Cox’s Bazar: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested a union parishad chairman, an alleged robber kingpin, along with firearms, including an automatic Sub Machine Carbine (SMC), in Pekua upazila early Monday, reports UNB.The arrestee is Syed Nur, 52, chairman of Rajakhali union parishad and chief of ‘Nur Bahini’ hailing from Rajakhali village in the upazila.Nur was involved in various criminal activities, including robbery, and toll collection from salt farmers and fishing trawlers in bay, said police.Tipped off, a team of Rab-7 launched a special drive at the house of Nur  and arrested him along with a 7.65 mm pistol and two bullets, said company commander of the Rab battalion major M Ruhul Amin. Following his statement during primary interrogation, the elite force also recovered an automatic SMC, one revolver, one shooter gun and five bullets, he said.Nur was accused in 29 cases, including of killing, robbery, kidnapping and extortion.
