Govt to nationalise 285 private
colleges soon

The government has finalised a list of 285 private colleges to nationalise as a part of its decision to set up a government college in each upazila of the country. The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Education Ministry has directed the authorities of these private colleges to hand over its moveable and immovable properties immediately through a deed of gift. Ministry sources said the order was issued on Thursday in this regard and directives have been sent to all the principals of these colleges, concerned deputy commissioner and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE). Sources said such decision has been taken as part of the government’s plan to set up one government college in each upazila. However, the absorbed teachers of these colleges are now not allowed to transfer to any college till further notice in this regard. DSHE sources said there are 327 government colleges right now and when these new colleges would be nationalized the total number would be over six hundred.
