A police officer was injured as local Awami League activists clashed with cops during a hartal enforced by the party protesting the visit of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque, reports UNB. Superintendent of police of the district Mizanur Rahman said Imtiaj Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Nabinagar Police Station, was injured during a chase and counter-chase between police and pickets.
The injured was admitted to Sarail Health Complex. The district administration on Sunday imposed section 144 in Sadar, Bijoynagar, Sarail and Ashuganj upazilas
amid the hartal. Two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), five teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and more than 150 policemen were deployed at important points of the district to ward off any untoward incident. Earlier on Thursday, district unit of Awami
League announced the enforcement of the hartal protesting the minister’s visit to inaugurate a livestock center in Bijoynagar upazila and boycotted the inaugural programme of the centre.
On Friday, the local Awami League men vandalised the nameplate of the livestock centre named after the minister and beat up the upazila livestock officer.
Later, a case was filed against 120 people with Bijoynagar Police Station in connection with the incident.
