Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon said that they will fill up the vacant post of the umpires’ committee chairman in their Saturday’s day board meeting after talking with umpires and match referees.
The post has been vacant since last Tuesday following the demise of Nazmul Karim Tinku while Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 2016-2017 season was going on.
“His (Tinku) pass-away is an irreparable loss for us. We have to take a replacement but at this moment we have not fixed who will look after the matter,” Nazmul Hassan said while he appeared in Mirpur to attend Nazmul Karim’s namaz-e-janaza.
“We have thought that we have a board meeting on April 22, in where we will take the decision,” Papon told reporters.
“But we want to sit together with umpires and match referees before settling the final decision. There have some other matters also to sit with them. Hopefully we could take our decision in the board meeting,” he added.
Citing Nazmul Karim as a laborious person, the BCB president said, “He was a board director. He was also chairman of the umpires committee. He never say ‘no’ to any work what he has been given. He took the responsibility and used to do it with delighted mind.”
“Today we have stopped the matches for it. We came here in Mirpur for Tinku bhai’s namaz-e-janaza. Today we did not hold any discussion and will not do,” he signed off.
