Dhaka University Mime Action (DUMA) has arranged a three-day mime festival titled ‘1st International Mime Festival 2017’ at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University in the capital. Charge d’ Affairs of Nepal Embassy Dhan Bahadur Oli inaugurated the festival on Monday, while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest. Later, DUMA presented a mime show on the inaugural day.
Several mime troupes coming from Japan, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, China, Bhutan and Bangladesh are participating in this three-day festival. Among the local troupes, Muktamanch Nirbak Dal (Gazipur), Gentleman Pantomime (Dhaka), Jahangirnagar Theatre, Mime Art (Dhaka), Bengal Theatre (Dhaka), Silent Theatre (Chittagong), Prabhat Pheri (CUET), North-South University Mime Society, Jagannath University Mime Society and Mime Action Mymensingh are participating in the first edition of the festival.
Besides mime shows, the festival also includes workshop, seminar, and poster exhibition on mime and mime contest among students of schools and colleges.
Every day, the mime show is being held at the TSC auditorium, while street shows are taking place on the campus premises, including Central Shaheed Minar area, Curzon Hall, Arts Faculty and Shahbagh.
The festival will come to an end with an award ceremony today. l
