6 cops hurt in ‘gunfight’ with ‘robbers’ in Cox’s Bazar

Six policemen, including two with bullets, were injured in a reported gunfight between a gang of robbers and police on Chakaria-Lama road at Kumari Bridge in Chakaria upazila early yesterday, reports UNB from Cox’s Bazar. Police said tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in vehicles passing through the area around 3:30 am, a team of police raided the area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire towards policemen, prompting them to retaliate which triggered a gunfight.
Two police constables sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight while four others, including Assistant superintendent of Police Matiur Islam and Bakhtier Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, were injured in a scuffle while arresting the robbers.
Police also arrested six robbers and recovered four firearms, 16 bullet shells and two sharp weapons, from their possession. They are-Abdur Rahim, Mozammel, Mohiuddin, Abul Hossain, Hossain Ali and Belal of Chakaria upazila. Of them, Belal was wanted in seven cases filed with Chakaria police Station, said the OC.
