Country to observe ‘World Heritage Day’

Bangladesh will organise a program to commemorate the International Day for Monuments and Sites 2017, otherwise known as World Heritage Day, today at the Lalbagh Fort, reports UNB. The Department of Archaeology and Friendship Centre will jointly organize the program to celebrate the Day to raise awareness about the assortment of cultural legacy and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve them and also to think about their susceptibility. Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will attend the programme as chief guest in the afternoon. The program will feature two exhibitions of archaeological monuments and traditional Boat, a discussion program, a presentation on archaeological exploration and excavation and a light and sound show. ICOMOS (International Council for Monuments and Sites) organized a symposium in Tunisia on April 18, 1982 and it was suggested that a special day be celebrated all through the world in the name of "International Day for Monuments and Sites" on the same day every year.
