Jute harvest nearing completion in Netrakona

Harvest of jute in ten upazilas of the district during the current season is nearing completion, reports BSS.
The district is widely known as “huge jute producing region” of the country.
The Jute growers are now expecting satisfactory output as they are getting better yielding rates.
Jute cultivators are not facing any problem or barriers for rotting their jute plants as all the natural water bodies including canals, beels, rivers and haors in the district are now full of waters due to widespread rainfall.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 4,873 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation in the district with the production target of 47,000 bales of jute.
Of the total, 878 hectares of land were brought under capsularies variety of jute, 318 hectares under Olitorious variety, 3,147 hectares under Kenaf variety and 530 hectares of land under Mesta variety of jute.
