Mild heat wave may continue
in north-west, south-west

Seven districts in the country’s north-west and south-west are experiencing a mild heat wave and this might continue, the Met Office warned yesterday. The districts are Rajshahi, Pabna, Tangail, Faridpur, Kushtia, Khulna and Jessore. Temperatures shot up not only in these districts, but also in Dhaka, where it rose to 35.7 degrees Celsius yesterday from 35.5 degrees C on Monday. In Rajshahi, the temperature went up to 37.4 degrees C on Sunday, but dipped slightly to 36.4 degrees C yesterday. The Met Office sources said the mercury would not rise much now, but the real heat wave would start after April 18–20, when the mercury may soar from 36 degrees C to 38 degrees C (moderate) to 40 degrees C (severe).
