For their outstanding contributions to the country’s theatre arena, two noted theatre personalities-- late SM Solaiman and Lucky Inam--have been honoured with this year’s ‘Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Award’. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury handed over the awards on the third day of the weeklong theatre festival of Padatik Natya Sangsad on Friday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. Presided over by Padatik Natya Sangsad president Syed Tasnin Hossain, noted theatre personalities Ramendu Majumdar and Mamunur Rashid, among others, were present at the award ceremony.
On behalf of SM Solainman, his wife Rokeya Rafiq Baby received the crest, and said, “The theatre troupe honoured one of their founder members, SM Solaiman. I am proud to receive the award on behalf of SM Solaiman.”
Lucky Inam expressed her feelings by saying, “I am proud and happy to get the award alongside late noted theatre personality SM Solaiman. We were very much close to each other as friends.”
After the award ceremony, Mymensingh-based Anwesha Theatre staged their much-acclaimed production titled ‘Bhanu Sundari’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA, while Curtain Call, a prominent troupe from India, staged their play ‘Antabihin’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA at the same time.
To note, marking the 93rd birth anniversary (April 11) of eminent educationist, Language Movement veteran and lifetime chairman of Padatik Natya Sangsad, Syed Badruddin Hossain, the festival is being arranged every year. The festival has been organised on a regular basis to mark his birthday since 2010.
