NETRAKONA: The historic Nazirpur Day, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of seven valiant freedom fighters in a front battle during the liberation war in 1971, will be observed today at Nazirpur village under Kalmakanda upazila of the district, reports BSS. On July 26, 1971, a front battle between the then Pakistani occupation armed forces and the freedom fighters was held where the occupation forces were defeated.
Seven valiant freedom fighters laid down their lives in the face to face fighting while the freedom fighters killed several dozens of Pakistani soldiers.
The martyred seven freedom fighters were—Dr Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Fazlul Haque, Mohammad Year Mahmud, Bhabotush Chandra Das, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Dijendra Chandra Biswas and Mohammad Jamaluddin.
Netrakona district administration, district Muktijoddha Sangsad and Kalmakanda upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad have jointly chalked out elaborate program to celebrate the day.
