Police foiled a child marriage bid at Saraspur village in Kalia upazila and arrested six persons, including bride’s father, on Friday. The arrestees were sent to jail through a court the same day.
Local people said a wedding ceremony was arranged at Saraspur village under Naragati police station on Thursday night between 12-year-old girl Nasrin Khanam, a student of class-VI, and Rasel Mollah, 25, son of Kaka Mollah of the same village. Acting on a tip-off, Naragati police raided the house at about 2 am and arrested bride’s father, bridegroom’s elder brother Kayum Mollah, his maternal uncle Kabul Mollah and three others.
OC of Naragati police Abdul Jalil said a case was filed against the arrestees under child marriage prevention act.
