Alleged drug traders hacked a youth to death at Usthi Board Bazar in Gafargoan upazila of Mymensingh on Monday evening. The victim was identified as Emdadul Haque, 29, of village Sanjeeb in Gafargoan. Quoting local people and family members, Chand Mia, officer-in-charge of Pagla police station in Gafargoan said Emdaul, an expatriate in Qatar, left his job there five months ago and retuned home. Since then he had been living in his house. Local drug traders allegedly led by Masud had been running their business in the area for long and none could stop them. Emdadul organised the local youths against the drag traders and asked them not to run their business in the area that might trigger the anger of the gang, the OC said. Following the feud, the drug traders allegedly locked in an altercation with Emdadul at Usthi Board Bazar area on Monday evening. At one stage, they started hacking Emdadul with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Emdadul was rushed to Gafargoan Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Soon after the incident, local people chased Masud, 38, and his gang members, caught Masud and gave him a good beating before handing him over to police.
Masud was also admitted at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Police recovered the body and sent it to MMCH morgue for autopsy.
Emdadul’s brother Kamal Hossain lodged a case with Pagla Police Station accusing three persons including Masud on Monday night.
