Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the main aim of her party and the government is to improve the living conditions of the downtrodden people, reports UNB. She said this when a seven-member delegation from the Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialist and Democrats of the European Parliament, led by Arne LIETZ, met her at her official residence Ganobhaban. PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said the delegation highly appreciated the impressive socio-economic development made by Bangladesh under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary leadership.
In response to queries of the European MPs on the readymade garment sector, Hasina said a 331 percent salary enhancement has been made for the entrants to garment units. She also listed various other steps taken by her government for the welfare of garment workers.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that if there is any unresolved issue in the sector, her government will look into the matter, too.
PM's Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and EU Ambassador in Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon were, among others, present on the occasion.
