Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), associate students’ wing of the ruling Awami League (AL), is set to hold its 28th national council at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital tomorrow. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of the council.
The new committee for its central unit will be formed on July 26, the second day of the council.
Aspirants and their followers are passing busy times in lobbying with former BCL leaders and other high-level leaders of the AL. To this end, most of the candidates did not even go to their homes to spend the Eid vacation.
A total of 242 aspirants have already bought nomination forms for the post of president and general secretary. A three member committee led by chief election commissioner Sumon Kundu is scrutinising the nomination forms.
Election Commissioner Sheikh Rasel said, “ A total of 80 nomination forms were bought for the post of president and 162 for the post of general secretary. We will scrutinise the aspirants’ age, studentship, marital status etc."
The BCL started the distribution and collection of nomination forms from July 12.
