PrangoneMor invited to ‘Purba Paschim Theatre Festival’

Theatre troupe PrangoneMor has been invited to stage their  much acclaimed play ‘Roktokorobi’ in India at a theatre festival on August 1 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata. A Kolkata based leading Theater troupe ‘Purbo Paschim’ has arranged a six-day colourful theater festival titled ‘Purba Paschim Theatre Festival 2015’ in India, which will start on July 28 and conclude on August 2.
The play ‘Roktokorobi’-a metaphoric play by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, features a fictional world called ‘Jagnapuri’ (sacrificial ground) where there is only wealth and no humanity. The leviathan King of that place, according to the mythology, is Kuber, but Tagore calls him Makar-Raj. One day a young maiden Nandini, symbolising purity, comes to the place in search of Ranjan. She is in love with him. Every man, every element of the society, even the King, wants her. But Nandini will not respond to impurity.
At long last the King breaks down the walls of prejudice, only for Nandini. A new conflict arises between the subjects and the King.
The brilliant dialogues, conflicts, power of emotion and the perceptive analysis of life are the theme of the play. The philosophy of Tagore, projected in the play shows his supremacy as a dramatist.
Nuna Afroze is the director and costume designer of the play. Thandu Raihan is the light designer, Faiz Zahir is the set designer and Jaglul Alam is the music director of the play.
To note, before staging the play in Kolkata, the troupe will stage the play at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the city on July 26 at 7pm. l
