The Gregarious emerged unbeaten champions in the Unimed Unihealth Premier Division Basketball League when they downed Dhaka Gladiators 77-61 in the championship deciding match at Dhanmondi Indoor Basketball Gymnasium in the capital yesterday. Gregarious led the first half 46-32.
The champions won all nine matches in the ten teams single league with topping the table with 18 points. They scored 792 points conceding 409 points. Gladiators, who suffered only defeat to Gregarious, finished the league with 17 points with point coming from match participation in the last match. Old DOHS finished last with suffering defeats in all nine matches.
Rashed and Mithun fought brilliantly to widen the Gregarious total scoring 19 and 17 points respectively. Sohaib (17) and Sajib (16) were the two leading scorers for Gladiators.
The champions team apart from receiving a trophy, also earned a cash reward of Tk 20,000. The runners-up team receive Tk 10,000. M Mosaddeq Hossain, managing director of Unimed and Unihealth, distributed prizes. Bangladesh Basketball Federation president Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin was also present during the closing ceremony.
