CU student murdered for ‘extramarital affair’

The Chittagong University (CU) student who was found dead in a flat on Wednesday night had been killed due to an ‘extramarital affair’.  Police said the deceased’s girlfreind and her husband might have been involved in the incident. On Wednesday night, Bayezidd police recovered the body of Alauddin Alaul, 24, whose hands and legs were tied with ropes. Alaul, a post-graduate student of the Bangla department at the University of Chittagong, was the son of Shah Alam, a resident of Madanhat village under Hathazari upazila.
Alaul had an affair with Rumpa from Oxygen area when he was a house tutor of the girl six years ago. The girl was later married to another person. Al Sadek, friend of the victim, said: “ Alaul had been in a six-year-long relationship with the girl since his college days." About a year ago Alaual started meeting Rumpa as her husband works abroad, said the sources. Alaul’s father, Shah Alam, said: “He left home, sayin that he would meet one of his friends around 5pm on Wednesday. Around 9pm, his cell phone was switched off. Police informed us on Thursday afternoon that his body was found.” “My son wanted to pursue higher studies to get a better job. All our hopes have been dashed,” he added. Alaul’s father demanded immediate arrest of the killers and sought exemplary punishment for the guilty. He also filed a case with the Bayezid police station, accusing some unnamed people. When contacted, Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayazid police station, said: “After primary investigation, we suspect that the CU student was murdered for his extramarital affair. However, we’re unable to confirm this as no one has been arrested yet.” On Thursday, police said the student was strangled to death. Alaul’s body was taken to Madanhat on Thursday evening. He will be buried in the family graveyard.
