North-east rivers flowing above danger level
Special Correspondent
After a brief let-up in the past few days, monsoon rains are likely intensify once again from Friday. This might worsen the situation in the country’s north-east parts, where its rain-fed rivers are already flowing above the danger level, threatening to breach the banks. Water levels in all the major river systems, barring the Brahmaputra-Jamuna are rising. But there are chances of the water levels receding in the next 48 hours.
The levels in the Padma and the Surma-Kushiyara river systems may rise in the next 24 hours.
