BCL stops
construction work at RU

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has allegedly forced the Rajshahi University (RU) authorities to stop the ongoing construction work of the Liberation War Research Centre on the campus. The RU authorities started constructing the research centre with a view to preserving rare documents, documentaries, films, music, digital and print versions of newspapers and magazines concerning the Liberation War.
According to officials concerned, some 15-20 activists of the RU BCL unit forced the workers to stop work and demanded the contractor of the project to meet their leaders.
They were allegedly furious over the fact that the contractor did not avail the permission of the RU unit leaders of the BCL, the students’ affiliate body of the ruling Awami League, before commencing the construction work.
RU Central Library Administrator, Prof Safiqunnabi Samadi, also the coordinator of the construction work, said they were feeling “helpless as the members of the ruling party’s affiliate body forced them to stop the work”.
If the construction work of the Liberation War Research Centre is stopped when

Awami League is in power, then where should we go, questioned Prof Samadi describing his helplessness. He also said that he could not lodge any complaint to the vice-chancellor (VC) or the pro-VC as their tenure expired on Sunday.
However, RU unit BCL President Golam Kibria denied the allegations and said he had no such information over the matter.
I would know if any of the BCL men had committed such an act and as far as I know, no member of the BCL went there and stopped the work forcefully, Kibria said.
