Art show ‘Amity’ in memory of Mithu begins today

A two-week group art exhibition titled ‘Amity’, in memory of noted filmmaker and artist Khalid Mahmood Mithu, will begin today at Gallery Twenty One in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md Shamsul Haque, prominent artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury and Grameen Telecom Trust Managing Director Parveen Mahmud will jointly inaugurate the exhibition today at 6pm on the gallery premises.
Born in 1960, Khalid Mahmud Mithu, was a Bangladeshi film director and painter. He was married to noted artist Kanak Chanpa Chakma. Mithu directed his play ‘Dhusor Album’ in 1993. In 2010, he directed the film ‘Gohine Shobdo’ which earned him the National Film Award. His second film ‘Jonakir Alo’ was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014, but was not nominated. He had also written a book on novelist-filmmaker Humayun Ahmed.
Mithu, in his lifetime, did 11 solo painting and photography exhibitions in Bangladesh, USA and Japan. He took part in 134 major group exhibitions in USA, England, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, France, Nepal, China, India, Japan, Korea, Slovenia, Germany and Bangladesh.
The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 12pm to 8pm, until April 1.
