Student held with bombs
Benapole: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a college student along with seven crude bombs from Porakhali village in Abhaynagar upazila here on Friday night, reports UNB.
Acting on secret information, a RAB team conducted the drive around 10:30pm and arrested Mintu Mollah, a 3rd-year student of Noapara College, along with the bombs, said AMM Jahidul Kabir, assistant director of RAB-6 in Khulna zone. A case was filed.
Farmer killed by lightning strike
Noakhali: A farmer was killed by a lightning strike in West Char Jabbar village in Subarnachar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as M Selim, 50, of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Char Jabbar Police Station Nizamuddin said Selim died on the spot as the thunderbolt hit him while returning home from a field during rain around 1:30pm.
2 held with hemp in Magura
Magura: Police in a drive arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 3.5 kilograms of hemp from Chatrakandi Dariapur village in sadar upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
Tipped off, police conducted the drive there and arrested Akul Mollah, 45, son of Razzak Mollas of Srirampur village and Kabirul Kajol, son of Rahim Lashkar of Narihati village, and seized the hemp, said Ajmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station. A case was filed.
‘Drug peddler’ held with yaba
Brahmanbaria: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 1,010 pieces of yaba tablets from Panchgaon in Bijoynagar upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
According to RAB sources, a team of RAB-14, led by Major Sheikh Nazmul Arefin and assistant director Chandan Deb Nath, conducted the drive and arrested Monu Miah, 38, along with the yaba tablets worth Tk 4 lakh.
Woman beaten dead by ‘son’
Naogaon: A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her son at Sonapur village in Manda upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station, said Ashraf Uddowla and his mother Aklima Bibi quarreled all day long at their home over their family problems. Around 11pm, Ashraf beat his mother, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and arrested Ashraf.
Truck driver killed in accident
HABIGANJ: A truck driver was killed as his truck fell into a roadside ditch at Baghjor village under Baniachong upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was Babul Miah, 40, a resident of Kapasia village of the upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Baniachong Police Station M Mojammel Haque said the accident occurred when the truck fell into the ditch in the area as its driver st control over the steering, leaving the driver Babul dead on the spot.
Phensidyl, injections seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 765 bottles of contraband phensidyl and 8,120 ampoules of sedative injection from Chanshialmara village under Shibganj upazila of the district yesterday morning. Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team from Shialmara Border Outpost conducted a raid in the area at around 3 am and chased a gang of smugglers.
At that time the smugglers fled away leaving three bags.
After searching the bags, BGB seized the phensidyl and injection worth about Tk over 15 lakh, a BGB official said.
