Following allegations of irregularities against Ideal School and College, the education ministry has ordered the Motijheel-based institute to furnish all financial information, including tuition fees and teachers’ salaries, within a week. The order was issued by the joint secretary of secondary and higher secondary division, Salma Jahan, on Wednesday. The school authorities have to send the information through the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka.
The ministry has sought information regarding the class-wise number of students, class-wise number of students who received scholarships, monthly tuition fees of the students, salaries of the monthly pay order (MPO)-listed teachers and employees with their salary scales, salaries of non-MPO listed teachers and employees with their scales, and account of surplus or deficit income of the institution.
“We have received allegations of financial irregularities against Ideal School and College, Motijheel. So we have issued a letter asking them to send some accounts of the monthly tuition fees of the students,” Salma Jahan told The Independent yesterday. The education ministry would take action if any
irregularities were found against the MPO-listed school, she added. On their part, the school authorities denied receiving the order as yet. “However, we would provide all the necessary information demanded by the government,” school principal Sahan Ara Begum told The Independent. Ministry sources said they have received several allegations of financial irregularities, especially pertaining to exorbitant tuition fees, against different MPO-listed schools, especially in Dhaka. They would gradually investigate all the allegations.
