In the month of Bangladesh’s Independence Day, Bangla songs were aired for the first time ever in Ireland on a radio programme yesterday, reports UNB. The songs were played on the radio program called “Distant Noises”, in which music from around the world is played, hosted by John Purcell, the chief executive of the KCLR, said a message received here from Bangladesh High Commission, London. The development comes after Nadeem Qadir, Minister (press), paid a visit to the KCLR station in Kilkenny in Ireland in February and sent CDs for the station to ensure Bangla music is played regularly. Some 100,000 residents, including Bangladeshi origin ones, of Kilkenny and nearby Carlow are its listeners.
