On the occasion of the 59th presentation of monthly dance Programme ‘Nupur Beje Jai’, Shadhona Shangskritik Mondal has organised dance presentations at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management Foundation (BIAM) New Eskaton in the capital, today at 6:30 pm.
On the 59th presentation, the cultural organisation will be presenting performances by Warda Rihab, Benazir Salam and Sylhet-based troupe Nrityashaily.
Nrityashaily’s believe is to preserve national feelings and creative dance and the expansion of the practice of classical dance. They are expert of Drohokal and they will do an episode on Pahela Baishakh.
Warda Rihab is a distinguished dancer of the country, who trained under the guidance of Sharmila Banerjee, Tamanna Rahman, and Belayet Hossain Khan. Rihab is currently a student of Guru Kalavati Devi and Bimbavati Devi. She is working as a teacher of Manipuri dance in Chayanaut Sangeet Viddayatan and Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, and is the founder and artistic director of Dhriti Nartanalaya.
On the other hand, Benazir began her dance career at the dance school of Abdul Hasib Panna called Nikkon Shilpi Goshthi in 1983 in Rajshahi. She was considered the national child of the years 1986, 1988 and 1989 through a competition organised by the Shishu Academy of Bangladesh. In those competitions she performed Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Modern Dance and Folk Dance. She was awarded gold medals in Manipuri dance, Modern Dance and Katthak Dance in Dhaka Junior Art and Music Festival 1988, sponsored by British Council and ANZ Grindlays Bank. She won the first Prize in Classical Dance (Katthak) in the National Education Week, Dhaka.
Benazir subsequently completed her masters in Odissi dance from the university securing the first position and the gold medal. During her stay at the university, she was a disciple of renowned dancer Muralidhar Majhi and Poushali Mukherjee.
Currently she teaches Odissi dance at her own school in Bangladesh, Nupur. She also is a dance teacher at Bangladesh Shishu Academy in Dhaka.
