Solo performance by Shakil at Nat’l Museum today

Noted Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil will perform at a solo classical musical soiree at the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) in the capital. Organised by Bangladesh National Museum, the musical soiree will be held today at 6:30pm.
Khairul Anam Shakil is a long-time Nazrul singer. He began singing when he was 10-year old. He took part in the Natun Kuri competition in the then East Pakistan and bagged the first prize in music. Shakil took his basic music lessons in Chhayanaut. He is the disciple of personalities such as Sanjida Khatun, Wahidul Haque, Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, Sohrab Hossain, Narayan Chandra Bashak and Indian classical guru Muhammad Sagiruddin. Shakil is the secretary of Chhayanaut and a regular teacher of Nazrul Sangeet. His breakthrough song was ‘Padmar dheure’, a Nazrul song belonging to the folk genre.
Apart from Nazrul songs, Shakil also performs songs of yesteryears.
Having an educational background in engineering, Shakil however, has had a favourable environment for music. His mother was a pupil at the Bulbul Lalitakala Academy, and later at Chhayanaut. Masuda Anam Kolpana, Shakil’s wife, is also a well-known Nazrul singer.
As a child, he loved music and often entered in musical competitions. On one such occasion he won a prize, which acted as a driving force in music.
