Farmers of the district and the crops specialists of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of Boro rice in the district during the current Boro season, reports BSS. The DAE office sources said, meanwhile, the farmers have cultivated the Boro paddy on 1,84, 320 hectors of land in the district exceeding the district’s Boro cultivation target fixed at 1,80,101 hectors of land by the government this year.
It has been possible by the cultivators for bringing additional 4,219 hectors of land under the cultivation against the fixed Boro cultivation target of the year. BADC, BCIC and DAED have ensured proper supplying of improved quality Boro seed, fertilizers and other agricultural equipments to the door-steps of the farmers for helping them to make their cultivation program successful, deputy director of DAE Bilash Chandra Paul told BSS.
Different commercial banks including Sonali Bank and Bangladesh Krishi Bank disbursed crops loan among the farmers and the power development board and rural electrification board ensured un-interrupted supply of electricity for irrigation. The deputy director informed that a total of 540 demonstration plots of Boro paddy have been set up on 540 acres of land in the district to let the farmers know about the methods of production and preservation of improved quality Boro seeds, fertilizers and applying latest technology for achieving maximum yielding rate by reducing production costs.
