BNP yesterday alleged that Awami League is intimidating the party about losing its registration with the Election Commission as part of the ruling party’s move to win the next polls by resorting to tricks and deception as it did in 2014, reports UNB. “A deep-rooted conspiracy is on to force BNP to join the election. It’s mandatory to join polls as per the law, but the law was enacted for people. The law is meaningless if it doesn’t ensure people’s welfare and their civic rights,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by Bangladesh Student Forum and Northern Regional Student Forum at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, marking BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman’s 11th imprisonment day. Fakhrul said their party wants a democratic governing system and a democratic government, not just an election. “We can’t call the 2014 election an election at all. In the same style, Awami League is now trying to score in the next polls by resorting to ploy and deceiving people. But, it won’t be so easy.”
He warned that the country’s people will not accept any farcical election like the January-5 one as they never bowed down to any injustice and unfairness. The repressors, swindlers can be successful temporarily, not parentally.”
Mentioning that there is no democracy in the country, the BNP leader alleged that Awami League talks about democracy to fool people though it does not believe in it.
He said Awami League will again try to retain power to use the country’s resources as per their will as there is no rule of law now.
To overcome the situation, Fakhrul urged all to wake up to put up a strong resistance against the ‘evil force’.
Describing Tarique as the ‘symbol’ of the Jatiyatabadi forces and the country’s future politics, he said the BNP senior vice chairman has been subjected to a serious conspiracy.
“It’s not enough to observe his imprisonment day on single day of the year. We must wage a strong movement to ensure his safe homecoming.”
He called upon all democracy-loving and patriotic people to take a vow to defeat the current ‘fascist regime.” Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman Andalib Rahman Partho said the future of a party like BNP and the fats of leaders like Khaleda Zia and Tarique cannot be determined by any court, executive order and law. “Only the country’s 16 crore people can decide it.” He also warned that it will not be possible to take BNP and the 20-party alliance to the election scaring them of cancelling their registration. “The next election won’t be held under Awami League as it’ll be overseen by a supportive administration. Begum Zia and we’ll be there in the polls.”
