Fire halts power production at Ashuganj  plant

Production at several units of Ashuganj Power Plant in Brahmanbaria was disrupted yesterday following a fire at the plant, reports UNB.
The fire originated at the 130 KV grid line around 10am from transformer flashing, said sources at the Power Development Board. After the fire, generation at several units was shut down, the sources said, adding that only a unit remained out of production till filing of this report around 5:30pm while others returned to production. The power supply to Ashuganj-Kishoreganj and Ashuganj-Mymensingh transmission lines was also hampered following the incident. Besides, production at Mymensingh 360 MW Power Plant of Rural Power Company Ltd (RPCL) came to a halt following the fire. It, however, resumed operation later.
