Selected films for February to be screened tomorrow

As a part of the yearlong festival titled ‘New Films, New Filmmakers’ jointly organised by Moviyana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), the selected films for the month of February will be screened tomorrow at the National Theatre Hall of BSA, Segun Bagicha in the capital.
The screenings of the films will be held at 4pm and 7pm. Besides, the fifth edition of ‘Cinema Five Alap’, a dialogue session based on a film-culture—related topic, will be held at 5:30pm at the same venue.
The jury board has selected three short films, one documentary and one full-length feature film from a big number of films submitted for the month of February. Among these five films, both the documentary and full-length film will be premiered at the Saturday’s event.
However, three short films—‘Postmaster’ directed by Supin Barman, ‘Longest Night of the Year’ directed by Dipa Mahbuba Yasmin and ‘Friction’ directed by Alif Islam Mukut along with the documentary film ‘Surer Noiranjana Teere’ directed by Adri Hridoyesh will be screened at 4pm.
Then, ‘Cinema Five Alap’ will be held at 5:30pm, where director Akram Khan will be present as chief guest. The topic of this session includes ‘Dayboddho Chalachitra Srishtir Path: Bazarer Sathe Sangharsha O Lorai’.
The full-length feature film ‘Sohagir Goyna’ directed by Lata Ahmed will be screened at 7pm.
Among the films, the short film ‘Longest Night of the Year’--written by Abdullah al Muktadir and directed by Dipa Yasmin--is an alternative take on the myth of Radha and Krishna. Starring Shaon Shah and Munni Talukdar, the scenes breathtakingly capture the mythical elements of the narrative whilst breaking the barriers of social conventions. The film is produced and released by Epiphania.
The film also marked the directorial debut of Dipa Yasmin, an artist and photographer who received training from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
Both film screening and dialogue session ‘Cinema Five Alap’ will remain open to all. To note, Moviyana Film Society is one of the largest organizations in Bangladesh that focuses on activities related to film. Established on 10 November 2006, it regularly arranges film screenings, film festivals and film making courses in different cities of Bangladesh. Filmmaker Belayet Hossain Mamun is the founder and incumbent president of the organisation.
