Biogas based electricity lightens 75 slum houses

RANGPUR: Biogas plant based electricity lightened 75 slum houses ushering a new hope among local people at Shyampur Puthimari Rail Colony under Chandanpat union of Sadar upazila here on Wednesday, reports BSS. It became possible following the initiative of ‘Light Festival in Evening Reading’ taken and implemented by Chandanpat union Chairman Aminur Rahman through setting up a community based biogas plant to provide electricity to remote Puthimari slum dwellers. The union parisahd built the biogas plant at a cost of Taka 4 lakh under joint funding of the Union Parisahd Governance Project (UPGP) and Second Local Governance Support Project (LGSP-II) of the Local Government Division.
The community-based biogas plant has been set up to create job opportunities for the poor people of Puthimari slum, improve standard of education of the children there by providing electricity preventing environmental pollution.
