Chittagong Abahani Limited shared points with Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) after a goalless draw in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.
By virtue of the draw, the MSC is still in the race to qualify for a berth in the semi-finals. The club displayed a sparkling performance against the hosts and defending champions, Chittagong Abahani, when they went on the offensive, keeping even possion. The hosts had dominance in the first half and also opened better scoring chances, but the Mohammadan custodian, Mamun Khan, was unbeatable, frustrating at least three certain scoring opportunities. The black-and-white team from Dhaka, who had faced a relegation threat from the league at one stage last year, produced the first chance of the match in the very third minute, but Sabuj failed to score from a close range. The hosts could have taken the lead in the 25th minute, but Augustin Walson, after dribbling past the defenders, released a slow cross for unmarked Kingsley who could not take the final shot.
After the goalless half, CTG Abahani were about to take the lead, but a Mamunul attempt on a Zahid back-pass struck the crosspiece on the 63rd minute.
