Abahani Limited are in a tongue-tied position to stay in the race after managing only one point from their two previous matches. The local giants will take on FC Alga of Kyrgyzstan today in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament.
Abahani one of the favourites, saw the big blow in the first match after a stunning 0-1 defeat at the hands of TC Sports Club of Maldives. And after that Maldives club’s second victory over FC Alga Abahani’s prospect for playing in the semifinal looks bleak.
Meanwhile, FC Alga of Kyrgyzstan have already been eliminated from group stage after conceding defeats in their last two matches with going down to Pocehon of South Korea by 0-2 and 1-2 to TC Sports Club.
Abahani’s chances now depends on the results of other matches of the group. On the other hand the Kyrgyz team wants to win in their last match in the tournament to have some solace.
Abahani captain Ariful Islam, who also agreed that there is almost no chance to qualify in the semifinal. He said, “Actually, the group have already been decided, now we will only try at least to win a match.”
“I know it will not an easy task to beat Alga FC, because they are also striving to finish the campaign with a win, because they lost their both the matches and it becomes prestigious for them,” said Ariful.
Sattayajit Das Rupu, manager of Abahani said, “Now there is no way to look back, it was unfortunate not to win in the last two matches, you also watched the matches. I think we deserved to win both matches but I don’t think it was nothing but a bad luck.”
“Now our only target to win the match, as it has become more than difficult for us to move into the semifinal,” said, Rupu.
