Theatre troupe BotTala will stage the fifth and sixth show of their new play ‘Crutcher Colonel’, an adaptation of eminent novelist Shahaduzzaman’s novel of the same name ‘Crutcher Colonel’, on February 24 and 25 at the Mahila Samiti in the capital’s Baily Road area.
Directed by Mohammad Ali Haider and dramatised by Soumya Sarkar and Samina Luthfa Nitra, this is the 8th production of the troupe.
The play ‘Crutch-er Colonel’ portrays the life of one of the masterminds of the November 7 coup Colonel Taher, who was executed in 1976. During the Liberation War, a high-achieving officer of the Pakistan army Lieutenant Colonel Taher was appointed the Sector Commander for Sector 11.  After liberation, he joined the Bangladesh Army and later on joined at Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal. He was an active player in the events of November 1975 that resulted in General Ziaur Rahman coming to power. After taking charge of the army, Ziaur Rahman tried him in a military court for high treason and murder inside the Dhaka Central Jail, and executed on July 21, 1976. In 2011, more than three and a half decades later, the High Court declared that the verdict of the military tribunal and the execution were illegal.
The probable casts of the play includes Imran Khan Munna, Evan Riaz, Luthfa, Ruma, Toufique Hasan Bhuiyan, Nafij Bindu and Abdur Rahim. Imran Khan Munna designed the stage, while Khalid Mahmud Sejan set the stage lighting and Pintu Ghosh composed music.
Earlier in December, 2016, the play was premiered at the ten-day theatre festival titled ‘BotTala Rangamela’ organised by BotTala.
