Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold
Medal inaugurated at DU
The Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal, named after one of the most legendary painters in the country’s history, has been inaugurated at the Faculty of Fine Art of Dhaka University (DU).
Qayyum Chowdhury’s widow Tahera Khanam, herself an artist handed over a cheque of Tk 10 lakh to DU Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Sunday at the VC’s office to introduce this gold medal. Every year one meritorious student who secures the highest CGPA in BFA Honors final examinations among the eight departments under the Faculty of Fine Art will be awarded Artist Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal.
Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art of DU Prof Nisar Hossain and Chairman of various departments of the fine arts faculty were present on the occasion. Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation.
Conference on sustainable development
held at United International University
United International University (UIU) has organised a 3-day international conference on Sustainable Development from 16 to 18 February at its own campus at Dhanmondi in the capital, says a press release.
Main slogan of the conference is sustainability is the challenge of the day. This international conference focuses on 16 themes: Sustainable Livelihoods, Climate Change Adaptation, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, Renewable Energy, Extreme Poverty Alleviation, Disaster management, Green Business, Green Banking, Sustainable Finance, Green Cities and Human Settlements, Good Governance, Migration, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, Gender and Development, Coastal Zone Management, Integrated Water Resources Management.
Conference accommodates 84 scientific papers from home and abroad for presentation. The inauguration of the conference took place with Professor Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, Vice Chairperson, BRAC as the inaugural speaker having national and international guests, participants and paper presenters and UIU teachers. UIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan chaired the session.
Reunion held at Stamford University
Alumni Reunion of Department of Pharmacy, Stamford University Bangladesh was held recently on the Siddheswari campus in the capital, says a press release.
More than 500 participants including ex-students & teachers attended the daylong programme. Prof Dr M Feroze Ahmed, Vice-chancellor, Stamford University was present as chief guest, while Major General Md Mustafizur Rahman, Director General, Directorate General of Drug Administration, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Md Ebadul Karim, Managing Director, Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. were present as special guest. A discussion was held on the title of “Recent development of Pharmacy Profession in Bangladesh”.
