‘Ekushey's achievement accelerates struggle for independence’

RANGPUR: Vice Chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) in Rangpur Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi yesterday said the achievement of 'Amar Ekushey' accelerated the struggle for independence of the Bengali nation, reports BSS."The nation finally achieved the ultimate independence after attaining many successes like 'Amar Ekushey' through the War of Liberation in 1971," he said and called upon the people to nurture the spirit of 'Amar Ekushey' in every heart.Professor Nabi, a noted population scientist, said this while addressing a discussion held at the university cafeteria in observance of the 'Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day- 2017' as the chief guest today.The university authority chalked out programmes like placing of wreaths at Independence Memorial, hoisting of the national flag at half mast, wearing black badges, bringing out of Ekushey Memorial procession to observe the day.Earlier, at one minute past midnight, the VC along with teachers, students, officials and employees placed wreath at the Independence Memorial and observed one minute silence there to pay due respect to the martyrs of Language Movement and War of Liberation.
In the morning, a huge Ekushey memorial procession, led by the VC, paraded the campus and adjoining areas singing “Amar Bhayer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari" and gathered at the Independence Memorial in the campus.Deans of different faculties, heads of different departments, provosts of different Halls, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university, leaders and activists of different socio-cultural and professional organisations participated in the procession.
Later, Registrar (Current Charge) of the university Professor Dr Nazmul Haque presided over the post-procession discussion moderated by Acting Proctor Meer Tamanna Siddika.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Dr Ferdous Rahman, General Secretary of Begum Rokeya University Teachers' Association Professor Golam Rabbani, Mrs Gul Nahar Nabi and General Secretary of the university's officers' association Shamsul Haque addressed as special guests.Professor Nabi said that the present government led by Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina already achieved huge successes in every sector of development speeding up national advancement faster during the pat eight years."If the present pace of development continues, Bangladesh would definitely become a developed country by 2041 and the spirit of 'Amar Ekushey' would be truly realised," he said and asked all for working sincerely toward the direction from own positions.
