Ex-JP MP Quader held

Detectives arrested Dr Abdul Quader Khan, former Jatiya Party (JP) MP from Gaibandha-1 constituency, from his residence at Rahmannagar Ziladarpara in the district town yesterday over the killing of Awami League MP Manjurul Islam Liton, reports UNB from Bogra.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Gaibandha with the help of Bogra police arrested the former MP around 5pm on suspicion that he might have been involved in the killing of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) MP Liton, additional police super (Sadar Circle) Sanatan Chakrabarti told the news agency. He was being taken to Gaibandha, he said. The arrest was made five days after police cordoned off his house.
Members of law enforcement agencies, including plainclothes Special Branch (SB) men, took position in front of his house-cum-clinic on Thursday.
Earlier on February 15, police arrested former MP's driver Hannan and personal assistant Rashedul Islam Mehedi from Kadamtali of Gaibandha.
Earlier, on Monday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque said the killers of Gaibandha MP Manjurul Islam Liton have been identified and they will be arrested soon.

The IGP came up with the information yesterday while talking to reporters after inaugurating a multi-storey barrack and an arms depot of Sripur Industrial Police-1 in Ashulia.
“Progress in the investigation into the murder is good and the motorcycle riders involved in MP Liton killing have been identified. They will be produced before the media upon arrest soon”, he said.
Meanwhile, three accused reportedly confessed to the killing of Liton before a Gaibandha court yesterday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Joynal Abedin recorded the statements of Mehedi, Shamim and Hannan. Later, they were sent to jail.
A press conference on the progress of probe into the murder will be held at the Police Super's office today.
