KURIGRAM: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said the government is implementing various programmes to ensure better civic amenities for improving living standard of rural people, reports BSS. “We are developing infrastructural facilities alongside providing health and educational opportunities to improve living standard of rural people,” he told a function in Bhuangamari upazila parishad at Kurigram district, an official release said.
At the function, the minister inaugurated the new electronic method for distributing money among the beneficiaries under the Income Support for the Poorest Project (ISPP). Mosharraf said the government has been successful in eradicating “Monga” completely from the northern region of the country. “Now Bangladesh is coming out from the vicious cycle of poverty as the present government is relentlessly working under far-sighted and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
The main objective of the ISPP programme, jointly funded by the Local Government Division and the World Bank, is to ensure cognitive development for under-five children and provide healthcare facilities to pregnant mothers. Local lawmaker AKM Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary of Local Government Division Abdul Malek, representatives of the World Bank and officials of local administration, among others, addressed the function with Deputy Commissioner Md Nurul Amin in the chair.
