A two-day ‘National Performance Art Festival 2017’ will begin today on the premises of Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. People’s Theatre Association (PTA)--in collaboration with BSA--has organised the festival, which has been scheduled to be held today and tomorrow at BSA. Eminent artist Mustafa Monwar will inaugurate the festival today at 3pm on the premises of National Music and Dance Department, while Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique will be present as chief guest. Presided over by BSA Director General and PTA founder Liaquat Ali Lucky, Mancha Sarathi-famed theatre personality Ataur Rahman will attend the inaugural ceremony as the discussant.
The opening ceremony will be held followed by an award ceremony, where noted artist Kalidas Karmakar will be recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award and artist Mahbubur Rahman will be awarded with ‘Performance Art Honourary Award 2017’. This year, the performance art festival will feature a number of 12 solo performances and a group performance. On the opening day, today, artists Kamruzzaman Shadhin, Farah Nazmun, Abu Naser Robi, Arpita Singha Lopa, Saleh Mahmud, Suzon Mahbub, Ashim Halder Sagor will come with their art performances while Yasmin Jahan Nupur, Jewel A Rob, Nazia Andaleeb Preema, Sumona Akter, Reetu Sattar and Loko Natyadal will present their performances on the second day, tomorrow.
The two-day festival will be held every day from 3pm to 8pm at the eight venues—National Music and Dance Chattar and Lobby, Nandan Mancha, BSA open premises, National Theatre Hall Lobby, National Art Plaza Lobby, second floor and Charu Prangan.
People’s Theatre Association (PTA) started a revolutionary movement in January, 1990 and participated in the 85 international festivals till now. Besides, PTA organised five editions of ‘National Youth Theatre Festival’ and thirteen versions of ‘National Children Theatre Festival’.
On the occasion of ‘National Performance Art Festival 2017’, a press conference was organised yesterday at the Seminar Hall of BSA. Liaquat Ali Lucky disclosed detailed information about the festival in the presence of artists of Performance Art Festival.
