The Sector Commanders' Forum (SCF), a group of 1971 Liberation War veterans, in a joint statement yesterday demanded that the government declare March 25 as the 'Genocide Day'. They said the 'Genocide Day' would commemorate the mass killing of unarmed Bengalis by the Pakistan Army on that night in 1971, reports BSS.
The joint statement was signed by chairman of the forum Major General (retd) KM Shafiullah, vice chairmen Major General (retd) CR Datta and Lt Col (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury and member secretary freedom fighter and writer Haroon Habib. In the statement, they said, the Pakistan government has again been involved in conspiracies by publishing a book to distort history of mass killing committed by their armed forces in Bangladesh.
The forum leaders strongly protested such misdeeds and demanded protest to be lodged by the government against the Pakistan government for spreading falsehood.
The platform of the Liberation War commanders also demanded the Jatiya Sangsad adopt a unanimous resolution in this regard as early as possible.
"We should raise the demand to the international community to declare March 25 as the 'International Genocide Day' marking the barbarism of the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971," the forum leaders said.
