Stress on zero tolerance against  repression on women

RAJSHAHI: Zero tolerance against all sorts of violence and repression against women is very important for the sake of mainstreaming the womenfolk for welfare of the nation, said police officials and development activists, reports BSS.
They unequivocally called for forging social resistance against all sorts of violence and repression against women so that the society and the country as well can go forward successfully.
They were addressing a women gathering to resist violence against them at Baganpara area in the city yesterday. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) organised the meeting discussing ways and means on how to combat the social crimes.
RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam addressed the discussion as chief guest with Divisional Head of Bangladesh National Women
Lawyers Association Advocate Deel Sitara Chuni in the chair.
Principal of Rajshahi Govt. Women Degree College Professor Nilufar Ferdous, RMP Deputy Commissioner Amir Jafar and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shirin Akter Jahan and local unit president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy also spoke on the occasion.
RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said proper and effective enforcement of the existing laws is very vital to free the society from violence and repression against women. RMP is working to this end.
He told the meeting that women cell has been launched in all police stations to extend legal aid to the repressed women.
RMP Commissioner Islam defined that the violence is a deadly crime, a social menace and a costly public health problem. Most of the victims of repression and violence are women.
